Concert review of Bon Jovi in Gelredome Arnhem 1 september 2000

It was a rainy day in Arnhem where we went to see our favourite band Bon Jovi. We arrived at 12:15 pm and at the entrance we were welcomed by the merchandise stands. They sold there T-shirts, calendars and other Bon Jovi stuff. Of course we bought a T-shirt.

There were already a few hundred fans that had spent the night under plastic sleeves. They were really die-hard fans! At first we thought we had to stand in the row to wait until the doors should open at 5:30 pm. But we read on the Internet that for BSWJBJ members there would be a special Venue Box where they handout wristbands. We were so lucky to be both members so we didn't have to wait in the row outside. At 2:00 pm we get our wristbands and could go back to our car and then we needed to go to a special entrance at 5:30 pm. When we arrived there we were let in to the stadium which was almost empty then. We were transferred to the barricaded area in the front.

At 7:00 pm the support act Toploader started to play. But that wasn't great. The crowd waited for Bon Jovi with anticipation. When the technicians made the stage in order for the band, the crowd applauded when the men for the lights climbed their way to the top of the ceiling. The lights go out and the band appeared!! It was such a great experience!! We really could see Jon at only 15 meters in front of us. The crowd got so excited when the band started to play. It was so wonderful to hear all those people around us scream.

Jon looked very good in his gold suit. They started with "I believe". The crowd didn't have to warm up, they immediately started singing and dancing as if their lives depended on it. It was really rocking like it had never rocked before. After "I believe" they played "You give love a bad name","Captain Crash", "Say it isn't so". Then they played "One wild night" and that's just what it really was: ONE WILD NIGHT. Jon told the audience that he's happy that "Crush" has reached number 1 in the charts. When they started playing "It's my life" the crowd went really mad. The roof of the stadium was closed but when they started to play this song the roof might as well have blown away. Over 40.000 people singing with the band!.

Jon had a great interaction with the audience. He danced twice with a lady and gave them a kiss. He also got down from the stage and shook hands with the people on the first row while he was singing "Lay your hands on me". It was such a great performance, there are no words for it. At the first encore the band played "I got the girl", "Wanted dead or alive" and "Livin' on a prayer". At the second encore they played "Next 100 years" and "Keep the faith". Then it was over, it seemed! But the audience was so fantastic that Richie, Tico, and David persuaded Jon to play one more song. Jon said to the audience: You called me back. "Thank you for loving" me was the last song they played and when that song ended Jon walked slowly of the stage while Richie played the outtro.

This was a night to remember, such a great event of a great band with such great people in it. They played more then 2 1/2 hours!! It's a pity for everyone who wasn't there. Bon Jovi rocks Gelredome, Bon Jovi rocks Holland, Bon Jovi rocks Europe, Bon Jovi rocks the World, Bon Jovi rocks the Universe!!!!!
